About the song

“You’re My World” originally emerged as “Il mio mondo,” an Italian ballad co-written by Umberto Bindi and Gino Paoli in 1963. Its transformation into an English version, with lyrics penned by Carl Sigman, marked its journey to becoming a global sensation through various renditions by renowned artists.

The song’s English adaptation was commissioned after catching the attention of UK record producer George Martin, who entrusted his protĂ©gĂ©e Cilla Black with its interpretation. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios in April 1964, Cilla Black’s rendition of “You’re My World” was orchestrated by Johnny Pearson and featured the vocal support of The Breakaways. The session’s musical ensemble included notable musicians like guitarist Judd Proctor and drummer Kenny Clare, ensuring a lush and emotive production.

Upon its release, “You’re My World” soared to the top of the charts in the UK, securing Black her second consecutive number-one hit. The song’s success extended globally, reaching number one in Australia for two weeks and making significant impacts in New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Ireland, Norway, and Sweden. In the United States, Black’s version peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number four on the Easy Listening chart, cementing her presence in the American music scene.

Beyond Cilla Black, “You’re My World” found success in diverse interpretations. Richard Anthony’s French rendition, “Ce monde,” topped the charts in France for six weeks and reached number three in Belgium. In Spain, Anthony’s version as “Mi Mundo” also attained number one status, further solidifying the song’s cross-cultural appeal.

In the 1970s, Daryl Braithwaite revitalized “You’re My World” with a rendition that became a chart-topping success in Australia. Released in 1974, Braithwaite’s version spent three weeks at number one and earned him accolades at the 1975 Australian Record Awards, underscoring the enduring popularity and emotional resonance of the song.

Over the decades, “You’re My World” has transcended language barriers and musical genres, becoming a cherished standard performed by various artists worldwide. Lyrics

You’re my world, you’re every breath I take
You’re my world, you’re every move I make
Other eyes see the stars up in the skies
But for me, they shine within your eyes
As the trees reach for the sun above
So my arms reach out to you for love
With your hand resting in mine
I feel a power so divine
You’re my world, you are my night and day
You’re my world, you’re every prayer I pray
If our love ceases to be
Then it’s the end of my world for me
With your hand resting in mine
I feel a power so divine
You’re my world, you are my night and day
You’re my world, you’re every prayer I pray
If our love ceases to be
Then it’s the end of my world
End of my world
End of my world for me
If our love ceases to be
End of my world
End of my world
End of my world for me
End of my world
End of my world
End of my world
